Excursions

by Henry David Thoreau

Thoreau’s essays, gathered in 1863, the year after he died, from A Walk to Wachusett to Night and Moonlight. It opens with Emerson’s memoir of his friend, first given as the address at his funeral. Emerson says there that Thoreau chose to be rich by making his wants few, and wishes he had been less content to be the captain of a huckleberry-party.
