Natural History

Personal Narrative of Travels to the Equinoctial Regions of America, Volume 1

by Alexander von Humboldt

Alexander von Humboldt and Aimé Bonpland spent five years in Spanish America, from 1799 to 1804, measuring everything from the blue of the sky to the heat of the sea. This is the first volume of Humboldt’s narrative, in English. Darwin read it at Cambridge and said it stirred in him a burning zeal to add something of his own to natural science.
