The Library After Dark

Fairy Tale

The Pink Fairy Book

by Andrew Lang

By 1897 the coloured books had gone looking further afield, and The Pink Fairy Book has tales from Japan, Scandinavia and Sicily beside the German ones. Lang thought the likeness between stories told in countries that had never met was the most interesting thing about them, and wrote whole books trying to account for it. The pictures, as ever, are by H. J. Ford.
