The Fairy Tales of Charles Perrault

by Charles Perrault

Charles Perrault, a civil servant at the court of Louis XIV, published Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Bluebeard, Puss in Boots and Cinderella in 1697, under the name of his teenage son. His Red Riding Hood ends with the wolf eating her, and a moral in verse warning young ladies that the gentlest wolves are the most dangerous. This edition of 1922 was illustrated by Harry Clarke, the Dublin stained-glass artist.
