Fairy Tale

The Little Glass Man

by Wilhelm Hauff

Wilhelm Hauff wrote three books of fairy tales as yearly almanacs from 1826, and died in 1827, at twenty-four. The Cold Heart is set in the Black Forest, where the charcoal-burner Peter Munk is helped by the Little Glass Man, the good spirit of the pines, and tempted by Dutch Michel, who takes men’s hearts and gives them stones. It is a fairy tale about money, and what it does to a heart.
