The Library After Dark

Fairy Tale

Russian Folk-Tales

by Aleksandr Afanasyev, translated by Leonard Magnus

Aleksandr Afanasyev published some six hundred Russian folk tales between 1855 and 1863, the largest collection of its kind, much of it from the archive of the Russian Geographical Society. Deep in his forests lives Baba Yaga, in a hut that turns on hen’s legs. This selection was put into English by Leonard Magnus.
