The Maine Woods

by Henry David Thoreau

Thoreau’s three journeys into the forests of Maine, between 1846 and 1857, to climb Katahdin and to travel by canoe with Penobscot guides. On Katahdin’s bare summit he felt nature to be something savage and awful, nothing like the woods round Walden. The book came out in 1864, two years after his death.
