Natural History

A Journey in Brazil

by Louis Agassiz

Louis Agassiz, the great Harvard naturalist and Darwin’s most determined opponent in America, went to Brazil in 1865 hoping to find in the Amazon evidence against him. He and his wife Elizabeth, who wrote much of this book, came back with many thousands of fishes. They found no such evidence.
