The Library After Dark

Legend

Rip Van Winkle

by Washington Irving

A good-natured idler wanders into the Catskill Mountains, drinks with some strange little men playing ninepins, and sleeps for twenty years, straight through the American Revolution. Irving took an old German folk tale and made it American. Rip’s bewilderment on waking is the best part.
