Reynard the Fox in South Africa

by W. H. I. Bleek

Fables of the Khoekhoe people of southern Africa, translated by Wilhelm Bleek in 1864, with the jackal as their sly hero. Bleek was a German linguist who later, with Lucy Lloyd, recorded thousands of pages of the /Xam language from San storytellers. These stories came first, and they are short, sharp and funny.
