Ghosts

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

by Washington Irving

A schoolmaster falls for a farmer’s daughter and loses her to a headless horseman who may simply be a rival in a clever costume. Irving never quite confirms it either way, which is the correct choice and I will not hear an argument about it. Read it once around Halloween, the way it was clearly intended.
