Life on the Mississippi

by Mark Twain

A former riverboat pilot returns to the Mississippi years later to see how much of his old craft still applies, and finds both the river and himself considerably changed. Half the book is technical memoir and half is simply Twain being unable to resist a good tall tale along the way. He clearly never stopped loving that river, whatever else changed.
