Adventure

The Man Who Would Be King

by Rudyard Kipling

Two former soldiers and chancers, Dravot and Carnehan, set out from India to make themselves kings of Kafiristan, and very nearly succeed. Kipling frames it as a tale told to a newspaperman on a hot night. It is an adventure, a joke and a judgement on empire all at once.
