Adventure

She

by H. Rider Haggard

An immortal queen rules a hidden African kingdom on nothing but her own unbearable patience, waiting two thousand years for one man to wander back into her life. Haggard was more interested in what a woman who cannot die does with all that time than in the men who come looking for her. She survives the wait rather better than the ending suggests she should.
