Medicine

The Genuine Works of Hippocrates

by Hippocrates

The writings that go under the name of Hippocrates of Kos, who taught medicine in the fifth century BC, were written by many physicians over a century or more. Francis Adams, a country doctor at Banchory in the north-east of Scotland, translated them from the Greek in 1849. Among the treatises in this first volume is Airs, Waters and Places, which tells a doctor to look at the seasons, the winds and the water a town drinks before he looks at the patient.
