Medicine

Pioneer Work in Opening the Medical Profession to Women

by Elizabeth Blackwell

Elizabeth Blackwell was turned down by medical school after medical school until Geneva College, in New York, let its students vote on her, and they voted yes, it seems as a joke. She graduated at the head of her class in 1849, the first woman to take a medical degree in America, and in 1859 became the first woman on the British Medical Register. This is her own account, published in 1895.
