The Library After Dark

Novel

Emily of New Moon

by L. M. Montgomery

Emily Byrd Starr, orphaned as a girl, is taken in by her proud Murray aunts at New Moon farm on Prince Edward Island, and writes letters to her dead father in an old account book. L. M. Montgomery published it in 1923, fifteen years after Anne, and readers have long taken Emily, who means to be a writer whatever her family says, for the heroine most like her author. It is darker than the Anne books, and some who love both like it better.
