The Library After Dark

Novel

The Blue Castle

by L. M. Montgomery

Valancy Stirling is twenty-nine, unmarried and bullied by her family in the Ontario town of Deerwood, until a doctor’s letter tells her she has a year to live. She decides to stop doing what she is told, and the rest of the book is what happens when she does. L. M. Montgomery wrote it in 1926 for grown-up readers, and set it not on her Island but among the lakes of Muskoka, where she had spent a holiday in 1922.
