Medicine

The Life of Pasteur

by René Vallery-Radot

René Vallery-Radot married Pasteur’s daughter Marie-Louise and wrote this life from inside the family, with Pasteur’s letters and notebooks to hand. It follows him from crystals and the souring of wine to silkworms, anthrax and, in 1885, the boy Joseph Meister, the first person given his vaccine against rabies. The English translation has an introduction by William Osler.
