Medicine

The Complete Herbal

by Nicholas Culpeper

Nicholas Culpeper kept an apothecary’s shop in Spitalfields and treated the poor of London cheaply, and in 1649 he angered the College of Physicians by putting their Latin book of remedies into English. His herbal, first published in 1652, gives each plant its uses and the planet that governs it. It has hardly been out of print since.
