Ghosts

The Monkey’s Paw

by W. W. Jacobs

An old soldier back from India brings a dried monkey’s paw to the Whites’ fireside and warns them that it grants three wishes, at a price. They wish anyway. Jacobs wrote mostly comic stories about sailors; this one has frightened readers for over a century.
