Contested

The Rainbow

by D. H. Lawrence

Three generations of the Brangwen family on the borders of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, from the farm to the mining town, and Ursula, who wants more than any of them. Weeks after it was published in 1915 the police seized it, and a magistrate ordered more than a thousand copies destroyed as obscene. Lawrence’s publisher did not defend it.
