Child Christopher and Goldilind the Fair

by William Morris

A prince’s son survives a usurped kingdom by growing up disguised as a woodcutter’s child, in an invented medieval world built purely for the pleasure of building it. Morris wrote this kind of tale before anyone had thought to call the genre fantasy. Tolkien read him closely; you can feel the family resemblance.
