Legends of Vancouver

by E. Pauline Johnson

E. Pauline Johnson met Joe Capilano, a chief of the Squamish, in London in 1906, when he had gone to see King Edward about his people’s land, and in Vancouver he told her the stories of the places round it. She wrote them down for the Vancouver Province, and when she was dying of cancer in 1911 her friends gathered them into this book to pay for her care. Her ashes lie in Stanley Park, near Siwash Rock, whose story is one of these.
