Fragment of a Novel

by Jane Austen

Austen began this novel in January 1817, already ill, and stopped in March, four months before she died. It is set in Sanditon, a fishing village that its promoter, Mr Parker, means to make a fashionable resort for invalids, several of whom are not ill at all. R. W. Chapman printed it from her manuscript in 1925, and it is known now by the name of its town.
