Northanger Abbey

by Jane Austen

Austen sold an early version, called Susan, to a London publisher for ten pounds in 1803, and he sat on it until her brother Henry bought it back. Catherine Morland, seventeen and full of Mrs Radcliffe, goes to Bath and then to an abbey she is sure must hide a dreadful secret. It was published in December 1817, five months after Austen’s death, together with Persuasion.
