Poems of Nature

by Henry David Thoreau

Thoreau wrote poems before he wrote prose, and gave most of them up; this selection was made by Henry Salt and Franklin Sanborn in 1895. Several first appeared in The Dial, the magazine of Emerson and Margaret Fuller, and others he set in his own books. The best are short, like Smoke, which is in Walden too.
