The Library After Dark

Journey

Rock-climbing in the English Lake District

by Owen Glynne Jones

Owen Glynne Jones, a London science master, wrote this guide to the crags of Scafell, Great Gable and Pillar Rock in 1897, with photographs by the Abraham brothers of Keswick. He sorted the climbs by difficulty, from easy to exceptionally severe, one of the first such gradings in Britain. He was killed on the Dent Blanche in 1899 with three of his guides, and this is a later edition of the book.
