Ciphers

Manual for the Solution of Military Ciphers

by Parker Hitt

A handbook for breaking ciphers, written in 1916 by an American army officer for officers in the field, and among the first of its kind in the United States. Hitt explains frequency counts, transpositions and the other ways a cipher gives itself away, plainly and with worked examples. Every one of them has been tried on the Voynich Manuscript.
