The Letters of Jane Austen

by Jane Austen

Her sister Cassandra burned most of Jane’s letters and cut passages out of others, and only about a hundred and sixty survive. Lord Brabourne, the son of her niece Fanny Knight, published the ones he had inherited in 1884, and Susan Coolidge chose these from his edition. They are full of bonnets, balls, neighbours and books, and sharper than anything she let into print.
