The Library After Dark

Society

Hard Times

by Charles Dickens

In the smoky mill town of Coketown, Mr Gradgrind raises his children on facts and nothing but facts, and learns too late what that has cost them. It is the shortest of Dickens’s novels and his angriest about industrial England. The circus people are the only ones with any sense.
