The Library After Dark

Novel

Moll Flanders

by Daniel Defoe

Born in Newgate prison, Moll was, the title page says, twelve years a whore, five times a wife (once to her own brother), twelve years a thief and eight years a transported felon in Virginia. Defoe published her life in 1722 as if she had written it herself. She tells it with a businesslike eye on what everything cost.
