The Life and Adventures of Robinson Crusoe

by Daniel Defoe

A shipwrecked man spends nearly three decades alone on an island, and turns out to need considerably less company than most of the visitors to this library assume they would. He counts, measures, plants, and prays his way into a kind of order. Whether that counts as survival or as a very long, very patient kind of loneliness, I leave to the reader.
