The Library After Dark

Journey

Above the Snow Line

by Clinton Dent

Clinton Dent was a London surgeon who climbed in the Alps every summer, and in 1878, after many failed attempts, made the first ascent of the Aiguille du Dru above Chamonix. These sketches, of 1885, are of his climbs between 1870 and 1880, told with more jokes than most climbers allowed themselves. He later edited the volume on mountaineering in the Badminton Library and was president of the Alpine Club.
