Journey

The Discovery of the Source of the Nile

by John Hanning Speke

In 1858 John Hanning Speke reached the great lake he named Victoria and decided it was the source of the Nile. This is the journey of 1860 to 1863 that went back to prove it, despite very little evidence at first. Richard Burton, his old companion, disputed the claim in public for years, and Speke was right.
