Adventure

Gulliver of Mars

by Edwin Lester Arnold

A lieutenant of the United States Navy unrolls a strange carpet and finds himself on Mars, among a pleasant, idle people and the barbarians who threaten them. Edwin Lester Arnold’s novel sank without trace in 1905 as Lieut. Gullivar Jones: His Vacation, and came back in 1964 as Gulliver of Mars. It is read now as a forerunner of Burroughs’s Barsoom, which appeared seven years after it.
