Journey

An Account of Timbuctoo and Housa Territories in the Interior of Africa

by Abd Salam Shabeeny

Abd Salam Shabeeny, a merchant from Tetuan in Morocco, crossed the Sahara as a young man and lived for a time in Timbuktu and the Hausa country. Years later he described what he had seen to James Grey Jackson, an English merchant in Morocco, who published it in 1820. It is one of the few accounts of Timbuktu in those years by a traveller from Africa itself.
