Wanderings in South America

by Charles Waterton

Charles Waterton, a Yorkshire squire, walked barefoot through the forests of Guiana in search of the curare poison, and once rode on the back of a cayman. Wanderings in South America, first published in 1825, is one of the strangest and most cheerful travel books in English. At home he walled his park and made it one of the first nature reserves.
