Domestic Medicine

by William Buchan

William Buchan’s Domestic Medicine, first published in Edinburgh in 1769, told families in plain English how to keep well and how to treat their own illnesses. It went through edition after edition for a hundred years and was kept in houses all over Britain and America. Much of its advice is about fresh air, exercise and cleanliness, and holds up well.
