Adventure

The Coral Island

by R. M. Ballantyne

Three boys are shipwrecked on a Pacific island and at first live very happily on coconuts and adventure. Ballantyne’s book of 1857 was hugely popular; William Golding wrote Lord of the Flies as a reply to it. Its picture of the Pacific islanders belongs to its time and is not a fair one.
