Natural History

The Ocean World

by Louis Figuier

Louis Figuier wrote a whole shelf of popular science in the 1860s, each volume crowded with engravings: the world before the Deluge, the insect world, the vegetable world, and this one, on the sea and its living inhabitants. He took his readers from the sponges and corals up through the shellfish to the whales. It is exactly the kind of book Professor Aronnax would have had in his study at the Museum.
