The Arctic Prairies

by Ernest Thompson Seton

In 1907 Ernest Thompson Seton and the naturalist Edward Preble went north by canoe, down the Athabaska and the Slave rivers and out onto the Barren Grounds, to see the caribou in their thousands. Seton was born in South Shields, grew up in Toronto and became one of the first to write realistic stories of wild animals. He was also a founder of the Boy Scouts of America, and its first Chief Scout.
