Transcendentalism in New England

by Octavius Brooks Frothingham

The first history of the movement, written in 1876 by Octavius Brooks Frothingham, a minister who had known many of its people. It begins with the German, French and English thinkers they read, and then gives chapters to Emerson, Alcott, Margaret Fuller, Theodore Parker and George Ripley. It is still a clear way into what they were arguing about.
