The Letters of Amerigo Vespucci

by Amerigo Vespucci

The letters of the Florentine merchant whose name ended up on two continents describe voyages to the coast of South America around 1500. Whether he made every voyage he describes has been argued over for five hundred years. Waldseemüller’s 1507 map gave his name to the New World, and it hangs on the north wall.
