A Vindication of the Rights of Woman

by Mary Wollstonecraft

A response to men who insisted women’s education should stop short of anything useful, arguing that reason has no gender and ignorance is not a virtue in either. Wollstonecraft wrote it in a fury, in a matter of weeks, and it still reads like an argument that has not finished being had. I keep it near the front, on the theory that visitors ought to trip over it early.
