The Library After Dark

Contested

The Awakening of Spring

by Frank Wedekind

Teenagers in a small German town are told nothing about sex, and Wedekind’s play shows what their ignorance costs them. He wrote it in 1891, and it was not staged until 1906, in Berlin, and then with cuts. Its frankness has kept it in trouble ever since.
