The Apologia and Florida of Apuleius of Madaura

by Apuleius

In about 158 Apuleius stood trial at Sabratha, in what is now Libya, accused of winning his rich wife by magic, and this is the speech he made in his own defence. It is clever, learned, vain and very funny about his accusers. The Florida are short passages from his other speeches, gathered later.
