Timaeus

by Plato

Most of the Timaeus is Plato’s account of how the world was made, but it opens with Critias telling the story of Atlantis, which Solon had heard from the priests at Sais in Egypt. A great island beyond the Pillars of Heracles made war on Athens and was swallowed by the sea in a single day and night. This translation is Benjamin Jowett’s.
