The Theological Tractates and The Consolation of Philosophy

by Boethius

Written in prison while Boethius waited to be executed, the Consolation has Lady Philosophy visit him and explain why fortune’s wheel should not trouble a wise man. It was one of the most read books of the Middle Ages; Alfred the Great, Chaucer and Elizabeth I all translated it. This edition prints the Latin opposite the English.
