The Lost Atlantis

by Daniel Wilson

Sir Daniel Wilson, an Edinburgh archaeologist who is credited with bringing the word prehistoric into English, became president of the University of Toronto. In the title essay of this collection of 1892 he weighs what the old stories of a land beyond the Atlantic might owe to real voyages and real knowledge of America. He is sceptical, learned and fair, which Atlantis books seldom are.
